This is Charlie Schuler. I assume he’s paddling on the outside at either Pensacola or Navarre Pier.
Two things come to mind when I think of Charlie, besides being a die hard surfer:
1) Collin Cobia, who’s now a graduate of the Harvard School of Architecture, told me the best teacher he ever had was Charlie Schuler (at PJC)

2) years ago there was a contest at Sebastian Inlet. I walked up to check things out. Everybody was doing what they do at surf contests – hanging out, cutting up, planning their next heat, etc. but Charlie was sitting by himself at a picnic table reading a book on Greek Mythology (or something similar). It was just such a contrast to what everyone else was doing.
