At that time a lot of the surf breaks in magazines were given fictitious names. It was a localism thing – to help prevent published spots from getting too crowded.
Dave Skelton regularly submitted photos to the surf magazines. He named this place “BMD’s”, which stood for “Brian, Mike and Dave’s” – because it was across the street from the house Brian Waters, Mike Bredesen, and Dave were renting, near Avenida 12.
