Rush Mark Rush (Mark Rush) at the Pensacola pier around 1972. Check out the background buildings and the wooden pier.
A popular water camera at the time was the Nikonos. I don’t think there were ANY automatic settings. While you were floating in the surf, and a guy on a board was flying your way, you had to set the f-stop, aperture, focus, etc. Dave Skelton had just sold his to Mark. Both were living at the PJC dorms (yep, PJC had dorms back then). They decided to check the surf on this day. Mark paddled out while Dave borrowed the camera he just sold him and snapped a few photos, including this one. It’s not a dynamic action shot, but it’s neat the way it captures the time – the old beach and the Mark Rush I remember so well.
Mark is a super talented artist. He lives in Panama City. Dave is still a Pensacola local.
