In the 70’s switchfoot surfing was kind of popular. Boards weren’t as maneuverable as they are today, so going frontside was often considered an advantage.
This photo is Yancy III switchfooting on the left side of the Pensacola Beach Pier (pretty sure). It was published in a 1974 issue of Surfing Magazine.
