In the 70’s we skated because we could pretend like we were surfing when the waves were flat. There was a super popular spot near the corner of Palafox and Cervantes St. – the First Baptist Church parking lot and the road next to it, which we called “Rodeway” because it was behind a Rodeway Inn at the time. Loads of people showed up on weekend nights. Fortunately the church didn’t mind.
