In 1989 one of the most popular surf spots on Pensacola Beach was simply called “Slabs”. It was actually the parking lot from the demolished Sharks Head Inn (I believe). It was west of the pier – where the Land Shark parking lot is now, or pretty close.
Benjamin Ardis was a young guy back then, who became a very good surfer, as well as a surfing sales rep – who has made his living in the surf world his entire adult life. He now lives near Daytona Beach.
