This is the day before Hurricane Kate in November 1985.
Our pier suffered heavy damage from Frederic in ‘79, and was rebuilt. Then in September 1985 Hurricane Elena wiped out 140 ft of the pier. It was repaired again. Finally, in 1995 Erin and Opal did it in. The pier was torn down, leaving us pier-less for 5 years until the current, longer and taller pier was built, about 50 yards to the west of the old one.
