One of the unique things about Pensacola surfing in the 1970’s was the people who surfed here. In this case it was a young Mark Foo. Mark went to Gulf Breeze High School in ‘73/‘74. From here he moved to Hawaii and eventually became one of the best big wave riders in the world. A few days before Christmas in 1994 he surfed Waimea Bay, then took a red eye flight to California to ride the same swell at Mavericks in California the next day. It was his last session. Mark drowned at 36 years old.
