In the early 70’s Pensacola Beach started to become a “place” in the surf world – because of a young surfer named Yancy Spencer, who was making a name for himself. Yancy was getting more and more exposure in the surf magazines. But, there was another guy from Pensacola, a friend of Yancy’s named Bzr Turner. People started hearing about him too. Maybe not as much as Yancy, but it didn’t make him any less of a force.
This is a photo of Bzr at the Pensacola Beach Pier sometime in the 70’s. I don’t know who took the photo, but I love how it captures his smooth, driving bottom turn.
