1974 or ‘75
This is me on the old boxing ring that used to be on the east side of the old Pier. The board looks pretty crude, but it actually rode really well – a 6’9” single fin shaped by Robin Sutherland in San Diego.
The board buckled the day before my heat at the ‘74 US Championships in Cape Hatteras. I was completely humbled to have Skip Frye, who was sharing our campsite, fix my board. I felt so unworthy, but he gladly fixed it on a picnic table at the Buxton campground.
