Years ago I was having a discussion with Yancey Spencer III about wax vs. friction pads. I wondered if wax would ever go away. Yancey said “waxing your board is part of the ritual” as if waxing your board was a religious rite. It was interesting to hear the way he looked at it. Surfing was super special to him – to say the least.
